“The attempt to divide and conquer this nation will not prevail because when the people are united, justice always prevails.” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson
More than seven million protested as part of the “No Kings” protests across the country, three million more than the previous June 2025 ‘No kings’ protests. A clear sign that the resistance is advancing against President Trump’s policies currently impacting working class people.
This Saturday, October 18 saw the largest single-day protest against a sitting president. The protests were festive, peaceful, and patriotic. Despite this, House Speaker Mike Johnson branded the protests as a “hate America rally” comprised of “the pro-Hamas wing” and “antifa people” during an appearance on Fox News.
“No kings”, “True patriots defend democracy”, and “No ICE” signs dominated in the marches and rallies from coast to coast. Those signs clearly defined the demands of the protestors. No matter what Mike Johnson or even Trump say they were defending the United States from authoritarian rule. In fact they showed that dissent was patriotic and love for the country.
What’s next?
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson ignited the crowd of 250,000 in the “No Kings” rally in Grant Park by calling for a general strike.
‘If my ancestors, as slaves, can lead the greatest general strike in the history of this country, taking it to the ultra-rich and big corporations, we can do the same today.” Johnson said.
He told the crowd to be ready for a “rematch of the Civil War … to defend this democracy” and to be “ready to fight fascism”.
He further said, “The attempt to divide and conquer this nation will not prevail because when the people are united, justice always prevails.”
We must continue our work, and if Mayor Johnson is calling for a general strike, let’s get ready.
Because, together we can stop the drive toward authoritarianism and a police state.
