2023: Let’s Make a Difference

These last 12 months have been incredible for our work with BUILDING BRIDGES and now I need to ask you to help me repeat this wonderful progress by asking you to help us raise $30.000.00. It’s not a large sum but we do a lot with so little

All those involved with BB are volunteers and include folks on both sides of the Mexico border.

Now some of you have been regular contributors and you have helped us to take women’s undergarments, books, blankets over, and soap products to so many. In addition, we helped to pay for medical supplies for some emergencies.

I hope that you can ask your friends and family to give what they can. We also invite you to join us on one of our border missions.

This year we have made great contacts with people in El Paso, Texas, and Columbus New Mexico. And as you know Tijuana and Tucson are two cities through which we continue to help others.

Perhaps the biggest thing that we provide to all we encounter is encouragement, love, respect, and uniting them to a vision of a better world.

This year there were 630 mass shootings and the loss of so many individuals who should be with us today.

When I heard of the tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas at Robb elementary my heart was broken. Two old friends Jack Healey and Rudy Arredondo each chipped in $1,000 to get me there. I had planned to do one story and leave.

The heartfelt loss and the courageous leadership of so many of the parents and others captured me.

While I did write articles about Uvalde I also produced some guides for the parents’ demands and got to know and work with so many in that community. I hope to continue my visits to this area and assist where I can.

DR. BRONNER’S MAGIC SOAP COMPANY and LUSH have contributed a huge amount of products to our work. And while we have a hard time getting material items into Mexico we get a lot of help from our partners working on the border.

Recently in Yuma Arizona, I stood there at 5 am on that cold morning and watched 600 immigrants (photo attached) who stood there waiting to get processed by border security. Some had to stand there in the cold for more than 6 hours. There was a mother with a two-month-old infant and others with toddlers in their arms. On tall blond immigrant spoke to me in English as he walked by and I responded in Russian and he smiled and replied in Russian.

We of the Zooming to the border Coalition joined the JOURNEY OF JUSTICE border tour organized by Witness at the Border. 35 activists traveled along the border from Brownsville Texas to San Diego California meeting with leadership and immigrants along the border. We saw the awful part of the wall made up of shipping containers. (Photo attached)

During this past year, our ZBC also held Zoom conferences reaching out to our friends on the border, and had more than 100 attending these conferences.

The Abolition of the Death Penalty is one of the critical issues that I work on regularly with Death Penalty Action as we try to stop pending executions.

Also, I mentor as best I can with Homies Unidos and others who work with youth at risk.

Not to mention I put 27,518 miles on my Van. Now at 207,217. That’s a lot. Soon we will need to search for a new set of tires and eventually a newer van.

In addition, I continue to write for three newspapers, which publish our work and stories about our dreams for a better world.

Many of you have given to many worthy organizations and that is great. But we urge you to also help us to raise our goal of $30,000.00

STAY INFORMED & TAKE ACTION

As capitalism fails, the only strategy the ruling class has is to turn us against each other by scapegoating narratives and pushing divisive politics. This is why we are a national source of information connected to a network of movement newspapers and publications. We represent the voices of those fighting for human rights and a world for people, not profits.
