Over a year after the Uvalde tragedy, the small Texas town continues to recover. With that in mind, Kimberly Mata-Rubio has taken into her own hands when it comes to protecting the people in her city. The mother of 10-year old Alexandria, one of the victims in the shooting, has announced her campaign for mayor and needs the support of everyone in moving forward. Running for mayor is not only a way for Mata-Rubio to be the change in her own community but also a way to honor her daughter and all the other victims of gun violence. While things need to change at the state and federal level, Mata-Rubio reminds us that we all need to start in our own communities no matter how big or how small our actions may be.
