The Valley of Tears, Texas Organizes Against ICE Raids

Editor’s Note: The following article was sent in by one of our readers, Jose Torres.

The Valley is organizing against Trump and his gang of thugs. They recently held three protests in four different towns throughout Texas: Brownsville, Harlingen, Weslaco, and McAllen. In total, more than 1,500 people took to the streets on October 18, 2025, the day of the “No Kings” protests.

Although not everyone protested in the streets, people supported the protests in various ways. Many people fear becoming victims of ICE based on what they see in the news about how ICE is detaining undocumented immigrants, permanent residents, and even citizens.

Here in the Valley, raids have been carried out and people have disappeared for weeks because ICE is holding them without the right to communicate with their families.

In Hidalgo, the latest raid occurred at a secondhand clothing repackaging businesses where several women were charged with federal crimes for working without proper permits. Fortunately, the federal judge told ICE that those charges were invalid, and they had to drop them.

Other demonstrations have taken place, one of them when the Trump administration attempted to deport children to Guatemala without giving them the opportunity to appear before a judge. The Trump administration seized these children in the middle of the night and attempted to deport them in a clandestine and criminal manner.

Fortunately, lawyers responded immediately and were able to stop the deportations. Here in the Valley, a group of people took to the streets and protested against Trump because this type of action is not what the Constitution allows.

Another demonstration was against the Abbott administration’s decision to gerrymandering districts to favor Republicans and helped them win state and federal elections. Unfortunately, that fight was lost, but the people still responded. The demonstrations took place in McAllen and Harlingen.

The people are responding, and the various groups fighting for their rights and justice are recognizing the need to unite our efforts to gain more strength.

We must recognize that this struggle is truly against fascism, which is increasingly evident in the way this government is attacking us day after day.

Why? We are the working class, and they no longer need our labor as much now because of new technology (AI), and they don’t have to pay salaries, medical benefits, etc.

The solution of the rich/corporations is fascist terror. And our response and solution is to organize for a truly just society based on our basic needs.

All forward, not a step back.
