Eduardo “Eddie Canales” was a great example for many who struggle to improve the lives of people in general. Eddie fought not only for the immigrant people but for the workers of this country; workers of the public sector, construction workers, and agricultural workers.
Eddie was a person who recognized injustice and for that reason, he dedicated his life to the fight to improve our economic situation in this country. He sacrificed his life of not having luxuries, instead aspiring that one day, true justice that we deserve in this world will be achieved as workers. He fought for what the people needed.
We are going to miss him, especially in his last struggle for the thousands of immigrants who lost their lives in search of a better life. Unfortunately, some of them don’t make it, and only their body parts are to be found. Eddie fought to ensure that these victims were not only a number of deaths but were returned to their home countries with identification so their loved ones could give them a well-deserved grave, as it should be to each human being.
Companñero Eddie, we will not forget you. It was an honor to know and fight with you. Our work continues and you will be there with us day after day.

Jose Torres, Texas Rural Legal Aid
