RIO GRANDE VALLEY — This place and basically the entire border with Mexico is the best known place throughout the country and worldwide for the reason that it is the place where thousands of immigrants from different countries gather to seek political asylum. It is where the fight between the federal and state governments clashes over who has the right to implement their laws.
The federal government declares that they have the primary right to implement its laws and has filed lawsuits in federal courts. The state government declares that they are the ones with said right.
Recently the state government has taken over a public park in the Eagle Pass/El Aguila area that is used by immigrants to cross into the United States of America. This situation has caused immigrants to drown in El RÃo Grande. The most recent incident happened when three Mexican migrants, one woman, and two children drowned This tragedy could have been prevented if the border patrol had not been prevented by the Texas National Guard to unload their boats into the river to come to their rescue.
The two governments, federal and state, are playing with the lives of human beings and it doesn’t matter to them. Recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated in a radio interview that the only thing left was to kill immigrants. But they didn’t do it because they would be subject to criminal charges. These types of statements are intentional to incite hatred against immigrants and migrants.
Let’s remember the massacre that happened in El Paso at the Walmart, sooner or later a person with anti-immigrant ideas is going to shoot immigrants because those ideas come from people in public positions like Governor Abbott. Trompas has the same thought of implementing a system just like Hitler implemented in Germany. If we allow immigrants to be easily attacked we continue since in Texas they implemented a law that is a punishment (even if you are a US citizen) to find yourself in the company of an undocumented person.
We the people cannot allow this to happen there rather than participate in the electoral process and go out to vote for the democracy that currently exists, but we must participate in the fight for true democracy of the people and for the people. We must organize ourselves in against our enemy the capitalists/corporations that control this
government.
