Just three days ago, Kilmar Abrego Garcia came home to his wife and children. Today, he’s back behind bars — arrested during a routine ICE check-in after being misled once again by the Trump Administration.
Now, they’re threatening to deport him to Uganda — a country he has never set foot in — unless he pleads guilty to a crime he did not commit.
Before his arrest this morning, Kilmar spoke publicly for the first time since his return from El Salvador. He called his brief reunion with his family “a miracle,” and thanked God and the community that never stopped fighting for him. Memories of his children, he said, helped him survive the horrors of CECOT prison. And with courage and clarity, he asked all of us to keep fighting — not only for his freedom, but for the dignity and liberty of all people facing injustice.
This case is not just about Kilmar. It’s about what’s happening all over our country.
As Kilmar was being arrested, Chris Newman, NDLON legal director, and counsel for Kilmar’s family, spoke out today on Democracy Now! — watch the interview here to hear exactly how far the government is willing to go to silence Kilmar and destroy his life.
Let’s be clear:
- Kilmar has never been convicted of a crime.
- The government’s allegations are false, unproven, and repeatedly discredited by judges.
- Trump’s minions are trying to win in the court of public opinion with lies because they keep losing in federal courts.
We are not giving up. But we urgently need your support to cover Kilmar’s legal fees and help his family navigate the weeks ahead.
We’re fighting for Kilmar’s freedom.
Kilmar is fighting for due process.
We are all Kilmar — and we must win.
Thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
Erika Andiola
Political Director NDLON
