Corporate Agriculture and their lobbyists have introduced a bill that threatens fair pay for farmworkers! If passed, SB5476 would allow agricultural employers to choose any 12 weeks per year to deny overtime before 50 hours per week. What this means is that migrant farmworkers who move throughout the state from crop to crop could work an entire year without receiving overtime pay. This bill follows a long history of racism embedded in our agricultural employment laws and would roll back the right to overtime pay that Washington farm workers finally won in in 2020.
Defend this hard-won right by:
- Take a minute now to sign in “con” for the bill in the Senate Labor Committee and register your opinion—no testimony required. Sign-in is open until Feb. 9 at 7:00 am
- contacting your legislators to ask that they protect overtime pay for farm workers
- and sharing these worker testimonials, history, and information on overtime pay

UPDATE
SB 5476 did not pass out of the senate in time for the 2/17/2023 cutoff, meaning that it is dead. Thanks to the union of supporters as well as farmworkers themselves, good news can occur.
Congratulations to the farmworkers in Washington State. The fight is not over, as many will oppose overtime thus causing it to continue being a legislative theme, C2C is an organization that will continue to amplify the voices of farmworkers who deserve to be fairly compensated for their work. For this time, it looks like overtime for farmworkers is safe!
