Standing in Solidarity with our Haitian Neighbors!!

The recent decision by the United States Supreme Court allowing the Trump administration to end deportation protection for Haitians and Syrians is yet another troubling, racially biased ruling that targets immigrants of color in America.

Haitian Temporary Protected Status (TPS) officially ended on July 27, 2026, after the U.S. Supreme Court’s Mullin v. Doe decision allowed the Trump administration to terminate the designation by USCIS. This means that over 300,000 Haitian nationals who had been living and working legally in the U.S. under TPS no longer have that protection.

The situation in Haiti has deteriorated even further, with key issues including:

•        6.4 million people in need of immediate humanitarian assistance

•        Over 5,500 people killed between March 2025 and January 2026 due to spreading gang violence in rural regions

•        Gangs recently attacked and burned communities in the Artibonite region, Haiti’s agricultural heartland

Sacramento Poor People’s Campaign (Sac PPC) stands in solidarity and supports extending Temporary Protected Status for our Haitian neighbors. It’s a moral imperative for human rights. Our country’s current immigration system is broken!

Additionally, we urge community members to contact California’s United States Senators and ask them to support passage of Senate Bill 4814, which would extend protections for Haitian TPS holders for 3 years.  Here’s the info needed:

This is the most straightforward method if you do not have a senator’s direct office number.

•        Identify Yourself: Provide your full name and address to establish that you are a constituent.

•        State Your Purpose: Clearly mention the issue, bill number, or topic you are calling about.

•        Request Specific Action: Indicate whether you want the senator to support SB 4814 or provide information on a bill or policy.

We must organize across racial, class, gender, social, and political lines, and we cannot be silent. Being silent is not an option!
