NDLON Joins Calls for Investigation and for Justice In Fatal Shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo of Houston
Editor’s Note: The following article was originally sent by NDLON (National Day Laborers Organizing Network) via La Talacha following the murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo of Houston, Texas. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) also published a statement on July 13, 2026, calling for ICE to be abolished after the ICE killing of a 26 year-old father in Maine. ICE shot him in front of his three year-old daughter.
LOS ANGELES, July 9 — ICE shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston on Tuesday morning. He was a husband and father. He was a business owner and worker who built homes in the Houston area and hired fellow immigrants. He was a Mexican who had lived in the United States for three decades. He was not a criminal and there is no evidence that he posed a threat to anyone.
NO TO MURDER
NO TO SECRECY AND LIES
NO TO ICE VIOLENCE
The following is a statement from Erika Andiola of NDLON, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
“We mourn today with the family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. We send our love as workers and immigrants, as members of the human family who are sickened and outraged by the ever-growing toll of suffering and deaths of innocent people at the hands of out-of-control federal agents.
“We know that the story of this tragedy is incomplete and official accounts will evolve as new evidence is revealed. But we also know this:
“There is no good reason to believe ICE’s initial account of the homicide. There is now no evidence that Mr. Araujo tried to kill anyone or deserved to be shot dead in the street. We have every reason to believe he was indeed the peaceful, hard-working family man his family and friends have known for many decades.
“Together with others in the immigrant community, we make these demands of those responsible for this killing:
Do not lie about Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.
Do not slander his good name.
Do not hide or harm the witnesses to his death.
Do not obstruct or hinder the investigations.
“Now more than ever, it’s time to organize and resist. To honor the dead and fight for the living. We urge all people of good will to join those in Houston and around the country to keep alive the memory of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.
Please help the family by contributing to their support.
Please support the witnesses.
Demand that the authorities conduct an open and full investigation.
Do not give in to terror, fear or exhaustion.
Get ready to stand up in the vigils, marches and protests to come.
