Midterm Elections: A Fight for Democracy

We must go to the polls and vote. After voting, we will not stop there. We will continue organizing a mighty movement that embraces our neighbors, feeds the children, ends homelessness, and will provide health care for all.

The midterm elections on November 3rd will find the country at a historical juncture.

On one side stands a resistance movement of everyday people, including the youth, seniors, black, white and Latino protestors. They are fighting for our democracy that is at peril. This resistance movement is surging across the country, gaining traction and momentum. Under the umbrella of the resistance, fighters are meeting and educating each other about these issues – ending ICE terror in workplaces, our streets, workplaces, and places of prayer; why a moratorium against data centers that the billionaires seek to build right in our backyards and will use valuable resources like water, energy and land; and finally, affordability for housing, food and gas.

On the other side, the billionaire class is imposing fascist, authoritarian rule to keep its power and wealth. The top 1% now own more wealth than the bottom 93% and one man, Elon Musk, owns more wealth than the bottom 50% of US households.

To squash the resistance, the Trump administration is oppressing and violating human, constitutional, and civil rights. They are carrying out their reign of terror with ICE agents acting as Trump’s private police. Its aim is to instill fear and inaction.

Furthermore, the billionaire class is projected to spend a total of $11.6 billion on campaigns of lies to confuse and deter the people. This was reported by the Election Day Media tracking firm AdImpact. This marks a massive 30% increase over the previous midterm record of $8.9 billion set in 2022. [1] Musk alone has spent around $100 million.

But their campaign of terror is not working. The more abusive the government’s tactics, the more the resistance grows. Heroines and heros have stepped forward and found their death in the hands of ICE agents, such as Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas. Siverio Araujo. Rene Good.

These killings by ICE fortified the resistance and did not weaken it. People are not buckling down. On the contrary, many more are joining the resistance. We are becoming aware that we the  American people were never a “family” like they told us. Here in the United States, as everywhere else, there are two main groups, the billionaire class who enriches itself from our labor and brain matter, and the working people who sell our labor and intelligence to the billionaire class. They take care of their own and we must take care of our own.

We are becoming aware that the current economic system is rigged. The rich are getting richer, while working families go hungry, homeless and sick. This is the root of our discontent and resistance.

We must go to the polls and vote. After voting, we will not stop there. We will continue organizing a mighty movement that embraces our neighbors, feeds the children, ends homelessness, and will provide health care for all.
